Presentations have varied from diorama’s to information posters. Students will now link their Olympic Inquiry Units in with our Countries Around the World Inquiry Unit. Students have began the tuning in phase and will be preparing for the grade 6 expo day in the last week of term. Stay tuned!
Welcome to all students of SMM 2016. It’s a very exciting time in your lives and your final year of Primary School. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals and preparing you for Secondary College.
Canberra Camp will be commencing on the 15th March and returning on the 18th March. Get your final payments in to confirm your spot. It’s a great camp and one you’ll never forget, looking forward to it.
SMM will be in the full swing of things next week as we begin our journey to raise money for Men’s Health. We will have alot of fun along the way while raising money for a good cause at the same time.
Special mention to Chloe Earle who has already begun her fundraising holding raffles and selling cup cakes at recess and lunch time. Ayla Almond has also begun her fundraising with lolly jar guessing.
Anything worth achieving doesn’t come easy, you have to work for it. Chloe and Ayla demonstrate this through their actions and we at Bourchier Street Primary School are very proud.
This November SMM while be participating in Movember to raise funds for men’s health. Students will create a moustache to wear or draw a moustache on their face every school day to promote this. Students have a Movember account that the public can donate funds to. It’s for a good cause and at the same time a bit of fun.
Simply look up SMM on the Movember page to donate.
In term 4 SMM will research Migration for their inquiry unit. Students currently have an understanding of Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Migrants. The understandings each student will demonstrate on completion of their unit are:
- Lifestyles across the world varies, this is influenced by natural and other resources.
- Reasons why people migrated to Australia.
- Contribution of individuals and groups (Including Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islanders) made to the development of Australian society.
SMM have been working extremely hard on their Environment units over the past 4 weeks. They will have understandings of natural processes operating around Australia, preparation and management of natural disasters and caring and affecting natural processes. During this unit they have looked into a variety of factors that effect the environment such as climate change, people, renewable energy and the ecosystem.
Our next Unit will focus on countries of world. Students will research a particular country and create an information poster on that country. Students will collaborate will students from other grade 6 classes to design a stall on their country to present at the Countries of the World Expo!
